Adorable 'designer' siblings looking for a home of their own

Adorable 'designer' siblings looking for a home of their own

There are many good reasons to adopt a shelter pet; the pets there are current with their shots, are spayed or neutered, and are ready to go home with you after you fill out the adoption paperwork and pay the adoption fee.

Shelter pets often seem to know that you saved their lives, and show loyalty and love to their adopted family.

Not only that, but some doctors say that pets are great stress-relievers. It's hard not to feel better when a friendly dog greets you at the door with a happy face and wagging tail. Pets are no substitute for a doctor's help if you are depressed, but they are definitely a help. In the eyes of a pet, you are  the most important person on the planet.

The pets pictured here are siblings who have been surrendered to the Henderson County Humane Society. For more information about these adorable mixed 'designer' breeds, call the shelter at (903)677-7387 for information about how to meet these dogs.

Humane Society shares "10 reasons senior pets rule"

Humane Society shares "10 reasons senior pets rule"

The Humane Society of East Texas shared an interesting list for potential pet adopters to consider. Puppies and kittens aren't the only animals who need a home; older animals are pretty great, too, and need your consideration.

Here's the list:

1. When senior pets are adopted, they seem to understand that they’ve been rescued, and are all the more thankful for it.

2. A senior pet’s personality has already developed, so you’ll know if he or she is a good fit for your family.

3. You can teach an old dog (or cat or other pet) new tricks (I do every day with my own cats!): Senior pets have the attention span and impulse control that makes them easier to train than their youthful counterparts.

4. A senior pet may very well already know basic commands anyway!

An opportunity for animal lovers to contribute to Oreo's surgery

An opportunity for animal lovers to contribute to Oreo's surgery

Our friend JoJo at Sassy Critter Rescue has a request for help for one of the foster pets in her care. Oreo needs surgery on his leg after an accident in his pen. Here are the details, followed by the contact information if you would like to help.

JoJo says, " Oreo is a 1 - 11/2 yr old male jack/rat that was rescued.  He was not getting the attention he wanted from his previous owner and was just left outside all the time.  So when I got him and picked him up, he was so excited and happy to be held and petted and was very needy."

"When I got him home, he got along with all my dogs but I didn't want to leave him out with them since he had not been at my house very long and I had to leave. I put him in a 3ft doggie play pen with 2 other small dogs.  He was fine, whined along with the other 2 but didn't really do anything so I left, backed out of my drive and remembered I had forgotten something."
