Thursday, May 17 beginning 5 to 8 p.m. at the National Guard Armory on the North Loop in Palestine Texas (Look for the tank).

The community is invited to join in fellowship for a predeployment picnic at the armory.  We’ll have hotdogs, kids games, face painting, snacks, local talents, vehicle tours and visits with the soldiers and their families.

Share your thoughts and goodwill to the soldiers and those family members that share this difficult time with them.  We need a few extra items.  If you can help out, please call 903-723-1578, 903-849-5361 locally.  We will coordinate with the FRG leader.

Friday, May 18, at 2 p.m., step out onto the Loop and wave on the Guardsmen on their last trip around the loop before they are set to transfer overseas.  Fly your flags and yellow ribbons on this day and until they come home.  Hope to see you there.

The Piney Woods Wine Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 19 in Mount Vernon, Texas. The wine trail is, according to the wine festival website,  "the second largest in Texas and growing. The festival will have wineries from East Texas on hand for wine tastings and to answer your wine questions. Wine will be sold by the taste, the glass or the bottle.
